Overview: The Carpentry and Craft Labor Instructor provides classroom and hands-on instruction to registered apprentices in both levels craft labor apprenticeship, along with classroom and hands-on instruction in all four levels of the carpentry program in the Nittany Valley region. This position will assist with rough terrain forklift, scissor lift and boom lift training of apprentices. MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: 1. Review curriculum, design lesson plans, develop schedule of instruction, and provide classroom and lab instruction to registered apprentices in all levels of carpentry and craft labor trades 2. Adhere to Keystone Apprenticeship and Training Trust approved standards 3. Schedule, plan, and implement classes to ensure appropriate time and materials 4. Appropriately utilize required PPE and lead by example in trade safety 5. Procure materials and outside resources within budget and with approval from Director of Apprenticeship 6. Lead continuous improvement of program area 7. Work with team of instructors for group lab activities 8. Assist with the provision of classroom and lab instruction to pre-apprentices 9. Be present at and support apprentices in local craft competition, mock craft competition, and national craft competition 10. Assist with the training of national craft competitors in carpentry 11. Participate in meetings with members to share information on trade programs Position Requirements
High school/trade school graduate or equivalent training, with minimum of five years’ experience in a trade.
Journeyperson equivalent.
Working knowledge and skill in up-to-date commercial/industrial trade principles, methods, and techniques.
Ability to instruct, manage, motivate, and evaluate student work in a commercial trade environment.
Strong organizational skills.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills (speaking and listening).
Ability to perform math computations needed in the trades.
English language skills (reading and writing).
First Aid & CPR certified.
OSHA 10-Hour Construction certified.
