Come join our team! American Lumber is a leading manufacturer in the lumber industry, with facilities and sales offices in multiple locations across several states. We are seeking an Industrial Maintenance/Millwright Manager to join the team at our remanufacturing plant in Tarrant, Alabama. Job Description: Supervises the facility’s maintenance function. Develop and implement preventive maintenance and improvement programs. Responsible for and/or performs preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment and systems (e.g. electrical and mechanical). Recommends equipment improvements to improve availability, capability, and yield. Performs equipment failure analyses (including preventative and unscheduled maintenance). Troubleshoot and diagnose difficult, infrequent problems with equipment. Prepares technical reports to document equipment modifications and writes equipment maintenance procedures. May support or otherwise supervise the safety and environmental initiatives within the location. Must display leadership as well as planning and project management skills. This position must direct 1 or more technical and/or production personnel. Major Responsibilities:
Overall responsibility for maintenance schedules and repairs
Develops and implements preventive maintenance and machine improvement programs.
Purchases parts, etc. and coordinates with Plant Manager, outside contractors in obtaining quotes for upcoming or necessary jobs (i.e. plumbers, electricians and other skilled trades) as needed.
Assists with in-house design and fabrication of equipment.
Incorporates and maintains safety observances, including but not limited to, use of all PPE by employees, ensuring guards and safety features are working, and promoting good safety practices and habits.
Communicates goals and objectives, applies company policy, staffs, trains, coaches, recommends salary increases, administers discipline, ensures positive employee relations and reviews the performance of assigned employees.
May install new equipment and train personnel on proper use.
May instruct employees on safety and occupational hazard control procedures.
May write specifications and obtain quotes for equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills:
Set up controls and adjust settings for industrial/manufacturing machinery
Read technical manuals, schematics and blueprints
Demonstrate solid knowledge of the following:
Bearings, belts, conveyors, motors and drives, sensors, pneumatics, lighting, electrical controls, DC powered lifts and PLC troubleshooting.
Observe machine operations for malfunction and defects
Perform safety checks to ensure safety devices are on and in good working order (guarding and all safety equipment)
Perform quality checks and document (where applicable), using simple gauges, precision measuring devices and visual inspection
Perform daily maintenance on machines and auxiliary equipment
Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment and storage areas in order to ensure compliance with safety regulations
Follow safety policies and standard operating work procedures
Welding experience is a plus.
This position is within a manufacturing environment with moderate to high physical activity involving routine lifting and pulling up to 50 pounds. The ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds to position material into holders of machine is required on a regular and recurring basis. This position also requires constant standing and frequent walking. Candidates must possess the ability to read and understand information/ideas presented in written and verbal form. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check Work week is Monday-Friday 5:30am - 3:30 pm Pay commensurate with knowledge and experience.
