Advertised Job Summary

Provides skilled planned and corrective cross-functional maintenance and repair services including carpentry, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing for designated facilities on the Columbia campus of the University of South Carolina.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience

Requires accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program and 3 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials

Preferred Qualifications

High school graduate and 5 years experience in a commercial or residential trades occupation including but not limited to carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and/or plumbing with knowledge of national and local code requirements for trades area.

Journeyman certification in HVAC, plumbing, or electrical

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Ability to develop and maintain strong customer service skills, maintain harmonious working relationship with departmental staff, work Independently and maintain functional awareness of typical hazards ·with in the work.

Under limited supervision, maintains and follows a safe, productive, cost effective, and comprehensive planned and corrective maintenance program for constant reliable operations relating to all carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing needs within assigned buildings by receiving work orders; communicating with the Call Center and the supervisor; planning, inspecting, verifying, communicating, and problem solving assigned maintenance issues; ensuring that all work performed follows the departmental and OSHA safety guidelines, policies, and regulations; and ensuring that all facility systems are in safe working order and compliant with national and local codes and regulations while exhibiting professionalism in conduct, appearance, and work practices.

Assists with the coordination of the installation of new and modified welding work including but not limited to reading blueprints, schematics, or drawings; consulting with University Project Managers, contractors, and sub-contractors; reviewing construction areas for welding
requirements; estimating costs for project work based on length, scope,
manpower, and equipment requirements; actual fabrication, installation or
modification or the supervision of same; communication of expected
installation or modification work with necessary personnel; and
compliance with industry standards and codes to assure proper
functioning of the system.

Performs administrative tasks including maintaining and completing accurate daily time sheets, records on all scheduled and emergency repairs performed on various related systems, assists with the Facility Services inventory control by requesting, receiving and monitoring maintenance supplies, materials, and tools from Consolidated Supplies and outside vendors following established procurement policies and procedures; and attending meetings and training events related to customer service, safety, and continuous improvement.
