Assessment Director

The Assessment Director is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing assessment initiatives for the Department of Student Life. The primary responsibility will be to design and direct strategic planning initiatives including the development of the departmental blueprint. This will include developing, implementing, and evaluating assessment activities that measure the Department of Student Life’s success in achieving its mission and that aid in strategic planning. In addition, this position will assist in managing staff development activities for the department of Student Life to positively influence the culture and improve the efficiency of all staff.

Day to Day Responsibilities:
  • Design and assist with strategic planning initiatives for the Department of Student Life.
  • Provide guidance and direction to 6 functional areas regarding research, data gathering, analysis and reporting that are relevant to area planning efforts.
  • Consults with functional areas regarding appropriateness of plan content, format, and direction.
  • Responsible for the development of the departmental blueprint documents including training employees to provide applicable data.
  • Oversees the Student Life blueprint submission process following all applicable University guidelines for formatting and content.
  • Trains employees in areas ensuring that they are up to date on requirements, format changes, and data gathering requirements.
  • Assist in the yearly external review process for the units within Student Life
  • Provide qualitative and quantitative data collected throughout the year to assist the unit in completing each section of the external review process.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree and 3 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree preferred and 2-3 years of progressive assessment experience

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Ability to coordinate diverse functions simultaneously. Knowledge of the basic principles and theories of student development and educational administration. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse population. Ability to identify, develop and implement programs and activities that will benefit the campus community.

Demonstrated experience in assessment, research methodology, and statistical analysis. Ability to effectively lead planning discussion and facilitate group process. Strong written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and effectively to both internal and external audiences.

Serve as departmental representative and leader on assessment committees. Attends and participates in meetings, including departmental and divisional meetings, where decisions are made regarding the direction, content and methods related to assessment. Participates in the development and execution of initiatives impacting Student Life and the assessment and evaluation of student leadership development beyond the classroom. Assists areas with the development of learning outcomes and engagement descriptors for programs, events and services. Partner and collaborate with key campus offices to ensure programs, services, and activities support a diverse, equitable and inclusive learning and work environment.
