Fleet Maintenance Coordinator

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the direction of an assigned Administrator to coordinate, implement, and monitor the management and preventive maintenance program for the fleet of vehicles and related equipment. Oversees the establishment of preventive maintenance schedules for all vehicles and related equipment and maintains service records of repairs. Manages and monitors the vehicle repair and maintenance annual budget. Confers with management to obtain and/or provide information pertaining to vehicle availability, use, maintenance, repair, etc. as needed. Serves as a liaison to internal divisions and external agencies/vendors and monitors the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery. Monitors and ensures compliance with federal (DOT/OSHA/TOSHA), state, and City policies and procedures as it relates to vehicle maintenance and safety. Establishes and performs safety training programs for division employees. Coordinates and implements DOT Drug Testing Program for division CDL holders. Prepares bid specifications for vehicle and equipment purchases and verifies bid specification compliance upon delivery. Monitors for suspected vehicle abuse and prepares and submits reports as requested. Assists with the investigation of accidents involving departmental vehicles, and recommend and administers vehicle and equipment training. Travels to various locations throughout the City to monitor for compliance with all required regulations in the repair of equipment. Attends and participates in professional fleet association meetings and seminars to remain current on new trends in equipment purchasing, maintenance and repair.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:
1. Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Requires the ability to operate general office equipment such as a personal computer and telephone. Requires some lifting and carrying objects such as automobile or equipment parts weighing up to 30 lbs. Requires the ability to operate an automobile.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed in an office environment. Frequent travel to various vehicle maintenance areas and service shops involving exposure to changing weather conditions, hot and cold temperatures, dust, fumes, grease, odors, and noise.


Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a closely related field and three (3) years professional experience relating to fleet management or fleet operations; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as a condition of continued employment.
The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from date of Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. The City Charter requires that City Employees, with the EXECEPTION of “first responders”, must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from their date of Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. As defined by Tennessee House Bill 105, "first responder means paid, full-time law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel and dispatchers of law enforcement, fire and emergency medical service departments."
