Family Nurse Practitioner - Reimagining Healthcare and Healing
Our work at Casa de Salud is unique. Every day, we deliver care that is rooted in dignity, trust, creativity, cultural humility, and mutual respect. We see healthcare from a lens that understands the histories of inequalities, oppressions, and structural forces that affect our community. We also see the strengths of our community members, as well as the cultural richness that exists around us. It is with this historical analysis and appreciation for the power within our community that we build towards collective wellness and liberation. Casa de Salud was founded in 2004 to provide high quality medical services to people with no or limited health insurance as well as a place for primary care clinicians and integrative healers to enjoy the practice of medicine. We embrace a holistic approach using a wide range of conventional, natural and traditional medicines to best address mind/body/soul medicine. Our clinicians include Family Physicians, a part-time gynecologist, NPs, PAs, a social worker, as well as a Doctor of Oriental Medicine, a Reiki master, a curandera, and two massage therapists. Case management and health coaching are available to patients. Casa de Salud is rooted in community, has relationships with many direct service and advocacy organizations in the county and beyond, and provides a culturally humble and anti-racist environment for staff, apprentices, and patients. The clinic is in a time of rebirth and growth, with the ability to creatively implement new programs and ideas without the bureaucracy of conventional healthcare settings. We offer a wide range of medical, integrative healing, psychosocial and advocacy services on an appointment basis or walk-in basis. Many of our patients are monolingual Spanish speakers. As part of our comprehensive approach to primary care, we also have a strong focus on nutritional/lifestyle changes, harm reduction (needle exchange in-house), opiate addiction recovery with medication assisted treatment and integrative/bodywork modalities, women's health services, and queer/transgender care including gender affirming hormone therapy. Casa de Salud is not a federally qualified health center, instead we are a nonprofit integrative community-based clinic. 75-80% of our patients are self-pay and we provide transparent, affordable healthcare and low-cost labs and procedures. We also accept Medicaid, greatly reducing the hassles of insurance-based healthcare while serving those most in need. Our patients are appreciative and enjoyable to work with; many have been with us since we started in 2004. Casa de Salud serves as a training site for pre-professional health students who serve as "health apprentices" and help run many aspects of the clinic under the supervision of a nurse and an apprentice clinical supervisor. We have a comprehensive and user-friendly electronic medical record. Casa de Salud is led by a board-certified family physician/addictions physician who also practices medicine at Casa, and is in touch with clinicians' needs. Casa de Salud's top leadership and board of directors are all women (and majority women of color). Family Nurse Practitioner Casa de Salud is seeking the services of a family nurse practitioner, part-time (at least 20 hours a week or more) or full time. If you are seeking a clinical home where you can practice medicine with love and care, where you can help build an integrative care model of care that is especially responsive low-income residents of Albuquerque and beyond, and where you can pursue creative projects within and beyond healthcare, this is the place for you. We are looking for family nurse practitioners who are passionate about working with marginalized communities and who are resourceful and creative. We are looking for family nurse practitioners who are interested in integrative and holistic healing and in working alongside practitioners from various other healing modalities. We are also looking for clinician leaders – as there are leadership growth opportunities available for quality improvement, clinical care, and community development. Nurse Practitioners must have Spanish proficiency as many of our patients are monolingual Spanish speaking; and must enjoy providing high quality healthcare both independently and within a team of transdisciplinary clinicians. Extensive experience with acute care and chronic medical care, as well as experience with a range of office-based procedures, is important. Experience in working with patients dealing with addictions is also important, and the ability to prescribe buprenorphine medication treatment for opioid addictions is a strong plus. Experience or interest in working with queer and transgender populations is also a strong plus. Clinicians have flexibility to develop their own practice style and focus areas based on patient and community needs. Clinicians also spend ample time with each patient. Clinicians are invited to build community responsive projects aligned with the clinic’s vision. Several current clinicians are nationally recognized Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars, and clinicians have pursued projects ranging from popular education curriculum development around the roots of addiction, to community partnerships for food justice, to strengthening systems for integrating modalities of care at the clinic. Salary/Benefits: This position is an employed position. Salary is commensurate with experience. Benefits include health insurance, dental and vision insurance, retirement plan with matching, paid time off, paid holidays, leadership development opportunities, professional development support, flexibility in schedule, a positive and exciting team culture, and support for advocacy/community projects that align with Casa de Salud’s mission. Casa de Salud has also been recognized as a site for the competitive New Mexico Health Professional Loan Repayment Program (NMHPLRP), which pays off up to $25,000 a year of student loan debt for clinicians who practice in areas with shortages of clinicians. The process is competitive, and Casa is proud to be recognized by the state as a site that cares for underserved populations.
