Family Consultant

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The role of the Family Consultant is to provide support to unpaid family
caregivers using a method that empowers caregivers to overcome challenges of caregiving and
establish a system of support that will sustain them through their caregiving journey.

Under the supervision of the Family Services Supervisor, the Family Consultant:

Provides consultation to caregivers on the phone or in person.
Conducts intake requests and performs comprehensive assessments.
Creates Action Plan and coordinates services for caregivers.
Completes thorough and accurate chart documentation.
Provides educational material and resources to caregivers.
Facilitates support groups and educational classes.
Completes other work assignments as directed by Program Supervisor.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Requires a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or related field.
Professional experience working with social service or community-based programs.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and knowledge of the principles and practices

of interviewing.

Ability to relate to older adults, and family caregivers, demonstrating sensitivity and active

listening.

Knowledge of community resources, especially those for family caregivers.

COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required

for employment. Chico State Enterprises will make a conditional offer of employment, which
may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is
discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to
satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a
current Chico State Enterprises employee who was conditionally offered the position.
