ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The role of the Family Consultant is to provide support to unpaid family
caregivers using a method that empowers caregivers to overcome challenges of caregiving and
establish a system of support that will sustain them through their caregiving journey.
Under the supervision of the Family Services Supervisor, the Family Consultant:
- Provides consultation to caregivers on the phone or in person.
- Conducts intake requests and performs comprehensive assessments.
- Creates Action Plan and coordinates services for caregivers.
- Completes thorough and accurate chart documentation.
- Provides educational material and resources to caregivers.
- Facilitates support groups and educational classes.
- Completes other work assignments as directed by Program Supervisor.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or related field.
- Professional experience working with social service or community-based programs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and knowledge of the principles and practices
of interviewing.
- Ability to relate to older adults, and family caregivers, demonstrating sensitivity and active
listening.
- Knowledge of community resources, especially those for family caregivers.
COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required
for employment. Chico State Enterprises will make a conditional offer of employment, which
may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is
discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to
satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a
current Chico State Enterprises employee who was conditionally offered the position.
