Lead dynamic agriculture and natural resources Extension programs in Pembina County, North Dakota. · Develop, plan, deliver, facilitate, and evaluate successful, research-based educational programs in the areas of crop management, livestock management, horticulture and forestry, natural resource management, farm business management, pesticide issues and farm and ranch safety that result in positive community impacts. Listen to clientele, build networks to assess locals needs and collaborate with communities of people. · Reach youth and adult audiences. Location About Pembina County: Pembina County has a strong farming economy in the northern Red River Valley. Bordering the Pembina Gorge on the western border, Pembina County has opportunities for outdoor recreation, hunting, kayaking, golf and catfish fishing. Ten miles west of Cavalier, the county seat, is North Dakota’s Icelandic State Park with a recreational lake, emphasis on local history and camping opportunities. Cavalier hosts a local movie theater, Pembina County Memorial Hospital, several childcare centers and private daycares, two coffee shops and a local school with a new expansion of the North Valley Career & Technical Center for high school students. The county hosts local festivals like August the Deuce (an Icelandic heritage festival) in Mountain and Giant Pumpkin Fest in Walhalla. The natural beauty is in a vast prairie landscape with open skies and the scenic Pembina Gorge located in an oak-aspen savanna forest in the northeast section of the county. Hunting opportunities are plenty. Fishing/boating is available at the Mt. Carmel recreation area. Other outdoor recreation in the county includes a ND state park with mountain biking and horseback riding trails, kayaking or tubing on the Pembina River, skiing and a summer outdoor musical at Frostfire Park and golf courses. The county seat of Langdon hosts a hospital and a thriving school system along with local youth hockey and skating clubs. In the summer, the great get-together in Langdon is the summer outdoor music festival. The Northern Lights Arts Council brings year-round artistic opportunities to the area. Work Schedule: 8 am - 4:30 pm Advertised Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Minimum Qualifications: 1. Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, agricultural economics, animal science, crop science, production agriculture, agribusiness, agriculture communication; or a bachelor’s degree with related agriculture experience; or a bachelor’s degree with an agriculturally related master’s degree. 2. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders. 3. Basic computer skills and ability to use Microsoft office programs such as Word, Excel, and Power Point. 4. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with individuals, groups and through mass media. 5. Ability to conduct oneself professionally, be self-directed in the work environment and work flexible and extended hours. 6. Ability to use technology for communication, information finding, program delivery, and reporting. 7. Familiarity with various ethnic and socioeconomic audiences, an interest and ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds. 8. Valid driver’s license. Preferred Qualifications: 1. Master’s degree in agronomy, agricultural economics, crop science, production agriculture, agribusiness, education, or other related discipline. 2. Experience recruiting and managing volunteers. 3. Experience in designing and delivering educational programs. 4. Recent Extension work experience. 5. Working knowledge of and experience with 4-H and/or other youth programs. 6. Demonstrated experience in local agricultural practices, or knowledge of agriculture issues in northeast North Dakota. 7. Experience with problem solving and conflict management.
