Education Coordinator

The Education coordinator assists in the development and implementation of an educational curriculum that meets NYSED standards for preschool and school age students with disabilities. Provides mentoring and training to educational staff; participates in the identification, evaluation and educational placement of students with disabilities.

With the assistance of the Director, uses discretion and independent judgment involving the comparison and evaluation of possible courses of conduct. These judgments may affect business operations or have a significant financial impact.

Keep open the lines of communication with their direct supervisor and/or upper administration, as this makes for best business practices.

Identify appropriate educational curricula for preschool students with disabilities.

Oversee appropriate educational curricula for preschool students with disabilities.

Provide orientation, and ongoing mentoring and training to educational staff in the development and implementation of Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs), classroom design, program implementation and behavior management.

Assist in the development and implementation of a Teacher-Mentor program.

Assist in serving as liaison to NYC Department of Education, District/Regional Offices and NYS Education Department representatives.

Assist in the organization and oversight of the initial and annual review process for students.

Conduct observations and tours of students referred to the program, complete summaries, and assist school district with appropriate placement.

Attend annual reviews if needed.

Assist in the formation of class groupings and staff assignments.

Provide Education orientation amongst hire to review Education policy and procedures.

Participate in the recruitment, identification and hiring of educational staff.

Master's degree in education or in a related master's program
New York State B-2 License
New York State Certified Teacher or related field

Heart Share Human Services of New York has four preschools located in Brooklyn and Queens focused on maximizing the potential of every student no matter the learning disability. Through the use of the creative curriculum and symbolic play each student is provided with an education experience geared towards their individual needs. The Heart Share First Step Early Childhood Centers also provide speech, occupational and physical therapies. The school also includes the family, the most important component of a childs life, in the educational and therapeutic planning for each student enrolled. Our goal is to work with each child to make them as independent as possible and succeed on their own in their futures. The school operates as a 12-month program including a 6-week summer program.
