Driver - Iowa Veterans Home

Job Description

The Iowa Veterans Home is looking for a full time Driver to assist with transporting residents and staff for medical and miscellaneous trips.

Duties include but not limited to:

Drive in a safe manner at all times and obeys all traffic laws.
Make decisions regarding transportation of residents if they develop health problems while enroute, such as returning, continuing the trip, or locating the nearest medical facility.
Transport staff to and from Iowa Correctional Institute for Women.
Return residents to IVH when being discharged from other facilities.
Transport residents and staff in all types of weather conditions.
Clean all vehicles in the IVH fleet inside and out on a regular basis.
Make minor repairs to vehicles: replace light bulbs, wiper blades, fuses, and topping fluids.
Conduct various office duties daily including checking resident trip schedule, emails, message board and cell phone messages.

Special requirements include:

Must have CDL Class C or obtain within 6 months of hire.
Obtain Certified Nursing Aide certificate within 6 months of hire. CNA Certification classes are available IVH.

Additional Qualification Requirements

Possession of a valid driver's license is required. Within a period of time after hire, as determined by the appointing authority, employees in this class may be required to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and endorsements.

Some positions in this class may require an applicant to have the ability to pass a background investigation.
