Position Overview
As the Accountant, you will keep detailed accounting records for the Employee Benefit Fund, the Individual in Custody Commissary Fund, and the Employee Commissary Fund. In this position you will prepare monthly commissary income statements, and monthly summaries of all invoice vouchers and assist in reconciliation to general ledger accounts. In addition, you will coordinate monthly commissary inventories, serve as lead worker, and review/evaluate control and fiscal policies affecting Locally Held Funds. We are looking for an individual with a strong accounting who has an eye for detail and maintains a high level of accuracy in their work. We encourage all qualified applicants to apply.
Essential Functions
  • Keeps up to date all detailed accounting records for the Employee Benefit Fund, the Individual in Custody Commissary Fund and the Employee Commissary Fund.
  • Prepares monthly commissary income statements.
  • Prepares a monthly summary of all invoice vouchers and assists in reconciliation to general ledger accounts.
  • Coordinates monthly commissary inventories to ensure inventory is complete.
  • Serves as designated lead worker.
  • Reviews and evaluates control and fiscal policies affecting Locally Held Funds.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, with courses in Business Administration and Accounting OR four years of technical accounting experience.
  • Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience applying accounting and auditing theories, principles, methods, and/or procedures.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience working with office methods, procedures, standard office accounting machines, and equipment.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience performing detailed work involving the application of accounting theory to evaluate routine accounting or auditing problems.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience analyzing and interpreting accounting records and reports.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience performing detailed work involving written and numerical data.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience making arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately, either manually or by machine.
