The Deputy Jailer is responsible for the care of inmates housed in the county jail. Ensure that inmates are maintained in a humane manner and granted constitutional rights. Records all activity associated with inmates. Provide emergency first-aid and CPR. Works under general supervision.
Job Responsibilities
Inmates:
Booking of inmates into the facility. Ensuring that all legal paperwork and all necessary documents are obtained for booking.
Processing fingerprinting, pictures, DNA, and court bonds.
Processing inmates in/out.
Conduct hourly checks of inmates.
Attending to all inmate needs to include feeding, clothing, and general care.
Passing medication and addressing emergency medical situations.
Inmate laundry/folding facility laundry.
Clothing exchange.
Release personal property to inmate families.
Pass commissary to inmates.
Razors twice weekly.
Book cart.
Blanket changes each month and blanket laundry.
Manage combative inmates.
Manage suicidal inmates.
Move inmates within the housing unit.
Cell searches for contraband.
Escorting inmates to court, nurse, attorney visits, etc.
Enforcing facility rules and regulations.
Clean and remove bodily fluids and waste from cells.
Other Duties:
Observing facility surroundings for any repairs that may be needed or damage done by inmates.
Observing cameras for inmate movement in pods, entry into the building and security of the facility.
Observing staff when they are interacting with inmates in pods.
Answering phone calls from the public and other agencies.
Filing of all paperwork and files.
Re-stocking supplies.
Prepare briefing and work area for the next shift.
Oversee attorney/client needs.
Court proceedings.
Escort maintenance.
Cleaning of the facility and making sure inmate areas are being cleaned by inmates.
Cleaning all staff area, counter tops, computer systems, and removing trash daily.
Run cleaning gear, clean floors in secure areas, clean carpet in control.
Clean staff restrooms.
Training:
Participate in remedial training to remain proficient.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesPosition Requirements:
Must be 18 years of age with no felony criminal record or domestic violence record.
High school diploma or equivalent required
Valid driver’s license required.
Knowledge:
Computer software programs and applications such as MS Office, RMS, CAD, Watchguard, Open Fox
County and/or city government administration
Federal and state statutes
First aid principles and application
Skills:
Ability to interact in a positive and professional manner to develop and maintain strong working relationships with co-workers, management and general public.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate goals, interests, and positions during discussions.
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize
Manage multiple concurrent projects while meeting deadlines
CPR/AED
Defensive tactics, OC spray, Taser, Crisis Intervention Training (CIT), handcuffing.
Abilities:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents and/or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and correspondence
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, victims, suspects, and/or the general public
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Must be able to analyze many variables and choose the most effective course of action for the organization at any given point in time
Ability to operate computer programs/software/platforms, to include Microsoft Office and those that apply to the department
Ability to use basic office equipment
Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality while handling personal information
Ability to manage conflict and communicate effectively under stress
Ability to pass all training courses
Ability to write reports per department regulations.
