The Opportunity
WSDOT Technology Services Division (TSD) is seeking a journey-level IT professional to serve as a Data Integration Modernization Specialist. This position provides journey-level data integration with an emphasis on continuous modernization of data integration processes to support system integration, artificial intelligence and machine learning, business intelligence, and new cloud and Saa S undertakings by the agency. As a Data Integration and Modernization Specialist, you will provide advanced technical support primarily to the Multimodal Development and Delivery (M2D2) portfolio/vertical for the following: Integration of data from and between a variety of legacy, cloud, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Saa S transactional systems; Loading relevant data into the WSDOT data warehouse repository for decision support; Business intelligence reporting within the portfolio and across TSD’s shared services; Identifying opportunities for advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence analytics; and Creating processes to ensure data quality to enable effective governance and architecture. Our top candidate will be well-versed in a variety of data integration technologies to support current and future data integration needs; including, but not limited to, GIS, SQL Server Integration Service (SSIS), Informatica, and Azure Data Factory.

What to Expect
WSDOT’s ability to manage and govern agency data depends on the continuous modernization of numerous databases, supporting applications, and infrastructure. This position fills a critical role within the WSDOT TSD’s Data Management Services Data Science and Analytics Team. This position reports directly to the Business Intelligence Coordinator and provides technical data integration support and development for WSDOT’s Cloud Modernization effort, WSDOT Data Warehouse, any Operational Data Stores, and cloud-modern Data Lakes, as well as cloud and legacy transactional system interfaces.

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Data Integration Modernization Specialist will:
  • Independently modernizes data integration processes to support business intelligence, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and system integration.
  • Independently creates and maintains processes to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from legacy, cloud, and Saa S transactional systems.
  • Provide development and implementation database support for modernizing WSDOT’s client/server and web applications.
  • Participate on application modernization teams as an expert on data integration and data migration for transactional systems.
  • Administer legacy and cloud-based data storage, warehousing, and integration systems.
  • Support M2D2s TDGMG GIS data integration and data migration needs regarding spatially enabled data designed for decision support activities.

Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, at least one of the following is required:
  • Six (6) years of experience working in Information Technology within data management or application development. OR
  • Four (4) years of experience working in Information Technology within data management or application development and a bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, or a closely related field.

In addition to one of the above, the following are also required:
  • Four (4) years of experience writing complex queries in SQL for reporting and data validation purposes.
  • Four (4) years of experience creating and maintaining highly complex ETL routines.
  • Experience with Microsoft SSIS and Azure Data integration.
  • The ability to communicate both orally and in writing to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • The ability to read and understand an Entity Relationship (ER) diagram.
  • An understanding of data warehouse principles and star schema design.
  • An understanding of modern cloud data architecture, data lakes, and integration design.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
  • Experience using artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms.
  • Experience with data quality analysis, data cleansing, metadata, and governance.
  • Experience using Informatica software.
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, mathematics, or a related field.
