The City of Durham’s Office of Performance and Innovation in the Budget and Management Services Department seeks a public service-motivated, community-oriented individual to assist with content design and community engagement. This is a part-time position (approx. 25-29 hours per week) responsible for working with Participatory Budgeting (PB) staff to create content to drive engagement to inform and engage residents using multiple channels, including Instagram, FB, and X. The ideal candidate must have experience with CANVA and or other design tools and must be passionate about equitable engagement.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Design and create engaging content for various channels, including social media, newsletters, videos, and websites.
- Manage social media platforms and update the website as needed.
- Design and write marketing and informational materials to clearly and concisely communicate.
- Plan and execute equitable community engagement initiatives, including leading events, workshops, canvassing, tabling etc.
- Facilitate community conversations, and focus groups to gather input and feedback from a broad range of residents.
- Experience working with historically marginalized communities.
- Support with volunteer coordination.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited university or college or have completed a degree.
- Experience creating visuals, including flyers, presentations, reels, and other relevant content for social media platforms and websites.
- Must be creative and pay attention to details.
- Must be a quick learner and enjoy a fast-paced environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- "Self-starter" - Must be able to work independently on assigned projects with minimal supervision.
- Must be tech-savvy.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate community events and meetings during high-engagement seasons.
