Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspector 2 located in Anchorage!
This position is in the Supervisory Unit (SS) at a Range 20.
What You Will Be Doing:
The Chief Boiler Inspector for the State of Alaska is responsible for overall management and supervision of the state boiler and pressure vessel program. Acts as the jurisdictional member to the National Board of Boiler Inspectors.

The mission of Mechanical Inspection is to ensure public safety through the regulation and inspection of various commercial and industrial trades and devices. The section regulates electrical and plumbing installations, boilers and pressure vessels, and elevators and amusement rides statewide. This mission is accomplished through licensure of regulated trades, and statewide inspections of regulated trades and equipment. Mechanical Inspection staff are committed to serving Alaska through effective regulation of these trades while working with industry and trade partners. As part of the field inspection team, you will be in the field most of the workday, providing inspections for construction projects.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:
This position is located in the Department of Labor Muldoon office building in Anchorage. This position has daily interaction with the public during field inspections of worksites and managing the boiler and pressure vessel inspection team.
This position requires daily use of a state vehicle to perform field inspections, in addition to daily use of Jurisdiction Online and Microsoft Office products to track and report on work. Frequent (average once per month) travel within the state does occur, typically Monday through Friday.

Our successful candidate will possess the following knowledge and skills:
- Accountability: Accepts responsibility for own actions and decisions and demonstrates commitment to accomplish work in an ethical, efficient, and cost-effective manner. Able to work independently from a remote office to perform field inspections on construction sites.
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent customer service skills used in-person and over the phone. Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others; develops and maintains effective relationships with others; may include effectively dealing with individuals who are difficult, hostile, or distressed; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations; is sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, disabilities, and other individual differences.
- Standards: Knowledge of trade standards and codes, state statutes and regulations regarding enforcement of requirements within our jurisdiction.
- Productivity: Ability to project inspection requirements for 2- and 4-year inspection cycles while managing projected revenue and travel spending to keep all objects current. Track productivity and provide monthly reports to supervisor.
- Management: Able to manage a small team of 3-5 boiler inspectors. Demonstrated ability to coach, hire, train, motivate a team is desired.
