Behavior Professional: Independent (BPI)

Vision Statement for Behavior Professional: Independent:

Their duties and responsibilities affect; the quality of life for those we support, the morale, turnover, and effectiveness of Direct Support Professionals (DSP), the efficiency of community partners, and Silver Nail NW’s reputation.

Behavior Professional: Independent (BPI) Position Description
Hybrid/work-from-home with travel area within a 100-mile radius of Portland for client needs. Willingness to travel once per fiscal quarter to Marion County for training. FULL TIME

Classification: Employee, nonexempt
Rate of Pay:
  • 23.00 to 28.00 per billable hour with a Bachelor's Degree.
  • 26.00 to 32.00 per billable hour with a Master's degree.
  • Experience along with applicable degree will be considered.
  • Credentialed OIS Instructor pay may include up to 15.00 per hour pay differential for OIS.
  • Secondary language may include an additional 10.00 per hour pay differential.
  • 18.00 per training hour
Experience with 24-hour Residential Services, Adult Foster (AFH), or adjudicated minors will be preferred.
Essential Functions for the Behavior Professional Independent:
Responsible for familiarity and following the Behavior Professional Guide and the OAR’s for Behavior Support Services. This includes learning the skills for assessing and completing written supports for:
  • Temporary Emergency Support Plans (TESP)
  • Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA)
  • Positive Behavior Support Plan (PBSP)
  • Maintenance Services (Maintenance) including training
ISP training and processes, including working with multiple team members
  • Participate in the assessment process, complete research, coordinate schedules, develop training materials, and ensure quality behavior support services and supports for the people who qualify for services for people with an intellectual or developmental disability (IDD).
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required. Ability to work with families, caregivers, and people who receive supports who are under a tremendous amount of stress as well as with professionals in the community such as therapists, doctors, state, and county personnel.
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills. Expected to give clear communications to staff and to train staff in a logical fashion.
  • Able to operate within the broad framework of established policies and best practices as identified by the Oregon Department of Disability Services (ODDS), the behavior professional guide for Oregon, SNNW best practices as well as policy and procedures.
  • Maintain and monitor budgeted hours per service agreement or contract. The BPI does not exceed the budgeted hours without first receiving authorization.
  • Responsible for daily/weekly operations and scheduling for their own schedule. This includes communicating changes in schedules for illness, emergency, or proposed time off.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Behavior Professional Independent (BPI) to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • The BPI is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The BPI involves frequent lifting, stretching, and other physical exertion while positioning people and moving their personal equipment when conducting assessment or training activities.
  • The Behavior Professional must be able to demonstrate and maintain a “G” certification in the Oregon Intervention System (OIS) and effectively
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type, Expected Hours of Work, Travel
  • BPI’s oversee their own schedule and workflow. They work as many hours as agreed to/assigned by the Behavior Services Manager.
  • BPI’s are expected to conduct observation hours based on the person-supported needs. This may include observation of an early morning hygiene routine or Saturday night dances if this is an area of support need.
  • BPI’s must make themselves available for a 6-hour block on one/two workdays for oversight/supervision, coordination, meetings, and observations. Otherwise, the BPI can work from home.
Position-Specific Training/Certifications/Delegations*
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Certificate of completion in Oregon Intervention System (OIS) Basic Certification or higher level.
  • Must possess a valid Oregon Driver’s License.
  • Copy of Current First Aid /CPR certificate.
  • Approved criminal history.
  • 12 hours of training per year.
  • Bachelor’s degree in social science, education, or related field PLUS experience supporting a person with disabilities for at least six months. Family members are encouraged to apply.
