STANDING ROCK SUPREME COURT

The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is soliciting applications for the position of Associate Justice of the Standing Rock Supreme Court.
The Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Court and Supreme Court are Courts of record, having civil and criminal jurisdiction over all causes of action subject to Tribal Jurisdiction of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. The Standing Rock Supreme Court hears all appeals from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Court’s Criminal, Civil, Children’s Courts and convenes at Fort Yates, North Dakota a minimum of four (4) times a year.
The Justices of the Supreme Court are Constitutional Officers of the Tribe, subject to ratification by two-thirds of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Council. The Associate Justice is subject to a retention vote by a majority of the voters of the Tribe at the next regular Tribal Election thereafter.
Minimum Statutory Requirements : Applicants for the Office of Associate Justice of the Standing Rock Sioux Supreme Court must meet the following Title I. Qualifications:
1) Must be at least 21 years of age.
2) Be of High moral character and integrity.
3) No convictions of a crime for which imprisonment was imposed, other than traffic offenses.
4) Must not have been dishonorably discharged from the Armed Services.
5) Must be physical ability to perform the duties of the office, and
6) Must be qualified to be admitted to practice under the relevant provision of 1-601a of this Title.
7) Must be a High School Graduate or its equivalent, and, if such individual does not have a degree in law or is not a member in good standing of the bar of any State or Federal Court, shall be eligible to become admitted to practice as a lay counselor in the Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Court.
