Position involves working extended hours and on-call status. Position performs moderate physical work; ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds. Also required to attend conferences & training related to Solid Waste Management. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises, organizes, and coordinates the daily operations with crews to meet work goals, assures activities are in compliance with all laws, policies, regulations and goals; demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service; responds to requests for information, and provides technical information within scope of the Authority.
Supervises staff through appropriate work oversight; prioritizes and coordinates work assignments; trains, coaches and instructs employees as required; monitors work and evaluates performance; ensures staff adhere to policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Coordinates and distributes work and route schedules; communicates with drivers to resolve problems and issues; verifies completion of work orders; enters data into automated database.
Monitors operations and procedures and submits recommendations for improving the work group’s functions and processes; reconciles issues relating to policies and procedures; investigates customer complaints, incidents, and concerns on services issues.
Coordinates repairs of vehicles and equipment.

Transfer Station Manager 2 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Equivalent to a high school diploma PLUS five (5) years of experience in heavy equipment operation or solid waste operations, plus three (3) years in a supervisory/lead worker position is required. A Valid Class A commercial driver’s license is required. A combination of education, experience, and training may be applied in accordance with SCSWA policies. Position requires an acceptable driving record in accordance with SCSWA policies. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge: of heavy equipment and solid waste operations, vehicles, and equipment; pertinent laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; principles and practices of effective employee supervision. Ability to: Schedule work, equipment, staff and materials/supplies for crews; identify and analyze problems, develop and present solutions, and oversee implementation; review and check the work products of staff to ensure conformance to standards; instruct staff in classroom setting; produce written documents with clearly organized thoughts with proper English sentence construction, punctuation and grammar; communicates orally with customers, clients or the public in face-to-face, one-to-one settings, in group settings, or using the telephone; establish effective working relationship; operate a personal computer and various software applications; use power and hand tool; operate motorized vehicles and equipment. Skills in: Able to operate loader, and other heavy equipment. Make logical recommendation to address issues and/or improve services, procedures, and methods based on findings; using independent judgement and personal intuitive; maintaining complete and accurate records; operating a personal computer with install and specialized software; prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands. Experience in: Cloud based and app-based fleet management and routing software (Fleetio, Routeware or equivalent) is preferential. Licenses/Certification(s): A Valid Class A commercial driver’s license is required. Position requires an acceptable driving record in accordance with South Central Solid Waste Authority policies. No DUI or DWI convictions within prior thirty-six (36) months and no moving violations within prior twelve (12) months. Must be able to obtain New Mexico Transfer Station Certification within one year of date of hire. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) may be preferred. ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL FACTORS Environmental Factors Work is performed indoors and outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions, mechanical and electrical hazards, and odors; may be exposed to hazardous material containing chemicals and hypodermic needles.
