Admissions Officer, Duke University
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Duke University seeks an Admissions Officer to join our team of admissions professionals. The selected candidate will be hired as an Admissions Officer, Senior Admissions Officer, or Assistant Director, depending on experience.
The ideal candidates will be service-oriented and should possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and presentation skills, as well as the ability to analyze data to inform decision-making. We seek energetic candidates with a strong sense of initiative, the ability to work well independently and in a team, the capacity to manage multiple responsibilities concurrently, and the ability to effectively utilize the Admissions Office database(s).
The candidate should be prepared to be responsible for a full range of recruitment activities, including representing Duke University to students, parents, alumni, and high school counselors in various settings, evaluating applications and participating in the selection process; planning on- and off-campus recruitment events; conducting on-campus information sessions for both large and small groups; working successfully with student volunteers; and performing other duties/projects as assigned by the Dean of Undergraduate Admissions or other senior staff members. The position may also include coordinating specialized recruitment activities to reach diverse and historically excluded populations, including Black/African American students, Native/Indigenous students, Latinx students, and/or Asian American students. Admissions Officers can expect to travel for four to six weeks throughout the year.
Desired Qualifications:
The position requires weekends and extended hours, especially during the fall and from January through April. Good judgment, strict confidentiality, and the ability to work collegially in a deadline-driven environment are essential. A valid driver’s license is required.

- Bachelor’s degree.
- Excellent writing and public speaking skills.
- High energy and the ability to articulate the benefits of a broad-based liberal arts and science and engineering education are required.
- Fluency in Spanish and/or experience with social media and digital communications is desirable.
- Preference will be given to candidates with 1-3 years of prior admissions or college counseling experience, particularly at a highly selective, private research institution, and those who have an awareness of the needs of diverse student populations.
