SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for handling livestock. Duties include sort count weigh tattoo and pen all animals in a hog yard environment; learn Tyson Pork Procurement Programs carcass merit kill sheet information weight docks and other buying procedures. Alley buyer also acts as a station relief buyer in absence of manager for training and vacation relief.
Job Requirements
Education: Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture or in a related field required.
Experience: Livestock experience strongly preferred.
Communication Skills: Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Computer Skills: Basic computer skills required.
Travel: Overnight travel required.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Limited
Physical Demands: Bending: Minimal bending required, depending on the ability to motivate hogs with the Team Member's voice.
Lifting: Minimal lifting required; the flag and tattoo hammer each weigh less than 5 pounds.
Push/Pull: Some pushing and pulling may be required to open and close gates or drag downed hogs, and to tattoo hogs.
Reaching: Required for moving hogs and tattooing hogs using the flag.
Grasping: Full hand grasp needed for holding flags, tattoo hammer, and gates.
Standing: Required to stand or walk for the entire shift.
Force: Minimal force required for most tasks, with moderate to heavy force needed when dragging downed hogs.
Work Duty: Team members may need to wear a hard hat, steel-toe boots, or hearing protection. The temperature of the work area is seasonal.
Additional Requirements: The team member performing this position must understand and follow all Tyson SOPs for animal handling, safety, and USDA regulations. The Supervisor Trainer will keep the team member apprised of job functions to meet these requirements. The team member will complete the necessary qualification requirements for the assigned job.
