Job Summary:
The RCSES is responsible for designing, delivering, and assessing comprehensive coding education programs to ensure accurate, compliant, and efficient coding practices across the dermatology network. The role requires extensive travel to multiple sites (50%+ of the time) to provide in-person training, as well as conducting virtual sessions via webinars and other digital training platforms.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Educational Program Development:
- In Conjunction with the Director of Coding Education, assist in the Design and development of tailored educational materials and resources, including manuals, presentations, and online courses, focusing on dermatology-specific coding practices.
- Stay current with coding guidelines, and industry trends to ensure training materials are up to date. Understand payer policies and coding guidelines for the individual payers.
- Training Delivery:
- Conduct coding education sessions onsite at multiple dermatology practice locations across the network, ensuring consistent training delivery and understanding.
- Facilitate virtual training sessions via webinars and other online platforms to provide 1:1 support and education as needed and be front-line resource for coding needs. (NOTE: Broader audiences is not effective for this role – Quarterly calls with CMO and Director of Coding Education are performed.)
- (NOTE: This role would not oversee the coding staff).
- Participate in Quarterly Clinician Coding Update calls with CMO and Director of Coding Education.
- Compliance and Accuracy:
- In conjunction with Director of Coding Education and Coding Staff, ensure all training materials and sessions comply with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding standards, as well as payer-specific requirements.
- Conduct post-training assessments to measure the effectiveness of the training and identify areas for improvement.
- Work closely with the compliance team to address any coding-related issues and ensure continuous improvement in coding accuracy.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Weekly status reports of all activities to be sent to Director of Coding Education at the end of each week to include:
- detailed records of training sessions, including attendance, topics covered, and outcomes.
- Prepare reports on training effectiveness, coding accuracy improvements, and any identified areas of concern.
- Assist Director of Coding Education in the development of policies and procedures related to coding education and compliance.
- Collaboration:
- Collaborate with Director of Coding Education, dermatology providers, billing teams, and compliance officers to identify education needs and develop targeted training interventions.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings with CMO and Director of Coding Education to provide insights on coding-related matters and contribute to overall practice efficiency.
- Operational efficiencies:
- Ability to utilize ADCS standard workflows to identify inefficiencies and recommend efficiencies within the clinic setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abiliities
- In-depth knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding standards specific to dermatology.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information in an understandable way.
- Proficiency in using digital training platforms and webinar software.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple training projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of operational processes and practices
- Strong understanding of Medical Office operations and clinical workflows
Certification:
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) with preference for CPC-D in Dermatology or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required.
- Certified Coding Educator (CDE) or equivalent certification preferred.
- Certifications must be kept in good standing and all requirements to maintain certification must be completed.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in medical coding, with a focus on dermatology.
- Operations experience within a medical office setting
- Proven experience in developing and delivering educational programs, both in-person and virtually.
- Experience in traveling to multiple sites to conduct training is highly desirable.
Work Environment
Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and client office environments. Regional travel is required, which may require extended periods of sitting and extended hours Occasionally, travel outside the assigned region may be required.
