In preparation for the Special Census, the U.S. Census Bureau will be hiring for a variety of positions to help with the special census beginning in July, applications are open – so apply now. Hours are flexible, and even training is paid.
Field Representative:

$25.50 per hour
Flexible hours, mostly nights and weekends when people are home

Why should you apply? Ensuring our population is accurately counted can make a big positive impact on our community. Training is paid and hours are flexible across days, nights and weekends in late summer/early fall.
Who should apply? These roles could be a great fit for teachers and school staff on summer break, college students, retirees, people looking for a temporary side hustle as well as anyone who wants to help our community. You must be 18 years or older and a U.S. citizen to apply for these jobs with the U.S. Census Bureau. Training is paid for all positions.
Special Census Timeline

March - September 2024 - Staff recruitment for Census workers.
May 8, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. - Job Fair - Ankeny Kirkendall Public Library
July 15 - Aug. 7 - All Ankeny residents will receive a letter from the US Census Bureau with information on how to participate in the special census online.
Aug. 29 - Oct. 21 - Field representatives will follow up in person with any residents who don't complete the census online to make sure each citizen is represented in Ankeny's population count.

Entry Requirements and Skills

Who Can Get Hired?
To be eligible for a special census job, applicants must:

Be a U.S. citizen
Be at least 18 years old
Be registered with the Selective Service (or with a qualifying exemption)
Have a valid Social Security number
Pass a Census Bureau-performed background check and a review of criminal records, including finger printing
