Head of Policy & Strategy Prevention & Protection

London Fire Brigade (LFB) is London’s Fire and Rescue Service – one of the largest firefighting and rescue organisations in the world. We are here to make London a safer city.

We employ over 5,500 people, across our operational team (our firefighters), control (our call handlers who answer your 999 calls) and our non-operational team (our teams who work behind the scenes to support our front-line services, including HR, IT, Finance, Procurement, Communications etc.).

Assessment Overview
Stage 1

1. Experience of working at a senior level in a large and complex organisation providing Prevention & Protection services to the public.

2. Experience of the successful management of organisational change and the development of projects, services, new and revised policies, procedures and standards to cater for and support change.

3. Experience of financial management within a large organisation, including budget monitoring and analysis.

4. Skill at a senior management level in organising, managing and prioritising personal workloads and the work of others within a multi-disciplinary environment.

5. Good general knowledge of pertinent legislation, regulations and codes of practice relating to local government, , risk and prevention & protection , including the achievement of value for money in local government services; and of relevant Standing Orders, Financial Regulations and other extant orders and instructions.

6. An appreciation of the importance of consultation, service standards and performance indicators in the delivery of services to the community.
