Endoscopy Scope Coordinator

This is a 20-hour post and your weekly shift pattern will include 2 x 7.45 to 18.15 10 hour working days. One of these days will be Tuesday and the other day can be negotiated at appointment to fit the needs of the service. You will have a supernumerary period and within this you will be trained in the scope coordinator role. Ideally the applicant will have some knowledge of the daily running of an Endoscopy Unit, but this is not essential as full training will be given. The role will include working closely with the Endoscopy Unit, its staff (MDT) and the Centralised Endoscopy Decontamination Unit. you will coordinate the endoscopes that are needed to fulfil the demands of 6 busy scoping lists with the addition of theatres, ERCP’s and emergencies. You will also be responsible for keeping track of all endoscope repairs, the requesting of necessary loan scopes and the receipt of endoscopes back from repair. You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to problem solve as the demands of the scoping lists change, such as, late cancellations, emergencies, and in-patients. You will be involved in the hanging and removal of endoscopes from the drying cabinets and within this you will need to use the computerised track and trace system. You will also learn how to set scopes up in the endoscopy rooms and take down and perform bedside cleaning to enable optimum patient flow through the scope rooms.

There will also be occasions when you assist the nursing staff in transferring endoscopes and endoscopy equipment to theatres, farage unit and the centralised decontamination unit.

You will also be trained to cross cover the endoscopy porter and stock and environment support role to enable sustainability of service in times of other staff being absent.

You must be willing to undertake all required mandatory training and any necessary role training as defined by the nursing or centralised decontamination unit managers.

You will be expected to input various data on to the computer on the Unit and utilise the track and tracing system for endoscopes.

You will be expected to attend team meetings and team briefings as required.

Liaise with the decontamination department this may involve transportation of scopes to the decontamination unit or other areas in the hospital.

Some of the duties, in support of the nursing team will include: -

Answering the telephone, relaying messages to the appropriate person.

Continual close communication with the supervisors in the centralised decontamination unit

Filling in and maintaining cleaning records and keeping records of scopes sent for repair.

Implement a track and trace contingency if the IT systems fail – you will be given full training for this.

Receive into the unit scopes returning from repair.

Be responsible for the maintenance records of available scopes to the unit.

Be responsible for ensuring scopes are tagged appropriately and correct accessories and buttons retain with correct scope always.

To liaise with unit coordinating sisters to know what scopes are needed on each endoscopy list.

To problem solve as lists change communicated to you

To liaise with stock and environment lead on materials needed
