Key responsibilities

• Develop new sensing chemistry (AIEgens)
• Oversee and coordinate daily activities of the projects including design and implementation of experimental protocols.
• Supervision of students (Master and doctoral degree)
• Writing and editing of manuscripts for publication and contributing to grant applications
• Summarize relevant data for presentation at national and international meetings
• Collaborate with partners in the USA, requiring periodic travel

• Ph D degree in organic chemistry.
• Strong research background in organic synthesis, preferably experience with synthesis of luminescent sensing molecules (porphyrins, AIEgens).
• Proven publication record, including first-author publications.
• Highly motivated, creative problem solver and team player.
• Excellent communication skills in English.
• Willingness to collaborate in a highly interdisciplinary team.
• Citizenship or nationality of a country that qualifies for the US Visa Waiver Program (due to travel requirements to the USA) or similar

• Support for a global scientific career with a focus on translational research.
• Access to state-of-the-art facilities in the modern sitem-insel building.
• Affiliation with the Department of Diabetes, Endocrinology, Nutritional Medicine, and Metabolism (UDEM) at the Bern University Hospital and University of Bern.
• Salary according to guidelines of the Swiss National Science Foundation
