Vehicle Tophat is one of six development units within Engineering (R&D) at Volvo Cars where the teams develop state-of-the-art Interior and Exterior. We are responsible for many of the vehicle functions and systems including, exterior and interior lighting, seats and passive safety.
What you'll do
In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring the efficient development and management of software and electrical systems. You will collaborate closely with Lead and System Architects, as well as software developers, to guide the development process and ensure that best practices are followed.
Key responsibilities include:
Governing and supporting component structure, interfaces, and software allocation within the electrical system
Overseeing configuration management and variant handling of components
Supporting teams during the Roadmap & Concept Phase for software and electrical systems
Leading collaboration efforts to define the software architecture and guidelines in the early phases of E/E platforms
Assisting teams with system design, software architecture, and requirement management tools
In addition to the above, you will consult and guide development teams throughout projects, providing expertise in system design and ensuring that teams follow architectural guidelines. You will also help manage the release of functions, systems, and component specifications for various project phases.
Finally, as the unit’s tool expert, you will stay updated on the latest tool changes and support teams in adhering to proper processes, particularly those related to systems engineering.
What you’ll bring
The ideal candidate should have experience in system design or architecture within electrical systems, with a strong background in electronics and software systems specifically within the automotive industry. A solid educational foundation in electronics or software, such as a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, is required.
It is also advantageous if you have knowledge of work methods and process development. The candidate should possess strong skills in information management, including understanding how documentation is stored, where it is kept and how all information is interconnected, particularly in relation to development information. Familiarity with requirement management is also beneficial.
To summarize, we believe you have:
Experience in system design or architecture within electrical systems
A strong background in software and electronics systems preferably within the automotive industry
Education minimum BSc in Computer Science, Electrical engineering or related field
It’s a bonus if you have:
Knowledge of work methods and process development
Skills in information model management
Familiarity with requirement management
System Weaver knowledge
Knowledge in regulatory requirement handling and vehicle certification processes
We are looking for a candidate skilled in communication who can build, lead and participate in various networks across the organization. You will work closely with multiple teams within Tophat and other parts of the company, delegating tasks effectively. A strong process-oriented mindset is essential for success in this role.
