We are seeking a field reporter to join our news agency, Newsnote, to be located in Mafikeng, North West.
Research topics and assigned story ideas and follow up on updates, written and/or recorded according to the Newsnote style guide
Make follow up reports and stories generated throughout the week for the current affairs programme
Write and translate scripts both in Setswana and English
Identify and develop relationships with experts and contacts who provide tips and leads on stories
Conduct interviews and prepare news sound bites
Come up with story ideas and own diary
Weekly production of radio features
Prepare and present the weekly news review program
Work in the field, taking notes, cultivating sources, analysing events and writing accurate articles
Attend news conference and a variety of community events
Stay up to date with privacy, contempt and defamation laws
Interview people in a range of different circumstances
Build contacts within communities and industry to maintain a flow of news
React to breaking news stories
Record all interviews and produce sound clips using the appropriate technical equipment as provided
Produce concise and accurate work according to the style guide and strict deadlines
Create and upload news content on the online platform, which includes tweets
Requirements:
Diploma or degree in journalism/media studies
4-5 years' experience in writing and reporting
Fluency in written and spoken English and Setswana
The ability to speak and understand other languages would be an added advantage
An established network in government, business, community structures and other related entities
Expected to cover events in the North-West Province and other areas that your work will take you from time to time
Valid driver's licence
