Job description
The North Coast Courier is looking for a news editor to coordinate our news coverage for our weekly community newspaper and digital platforms. We are seeking an applicant with news-editing and writing skills who has a nose for news and a good sense of what our readers want to see online, in print and in video.
Applicants should have a demonstrated knowledge of the newsroom and be able to quickly commission, edit and publish relevant and informed articles. The position involves liaising with reporters and the Editor to ensure the best possible product is created both in print and online.
The news editor will be expected to lead by example, contributing to the newspaper weekly by producing both investigative articles and community journalism.

Main responsibilities
Manage a team of reporters
Deliver quality and extensive coverage in digital, print and video products;
Being comfortable with daily deadlines, in line with our 'digital-first' strategy;
Quick editing skills to ensure stories provide a full picture timeously;
Ensure journalism is produced at a consistent high standard;
The ability to contribute original ideas
Contribute to building digital audience.
Requirements
Relevant diploma/degree;
At least seven years' experience in journalism;
Own transport and valid driver's license
Excellent organisational and editing;
Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure;
Excellent communication skills; and
Unimpeachable integrity
Be self-motivated with an ability to lead and work within a team.
Salary to commensurate with experience
