Main purpose of the job
To assist deaf individuals understand what is being said in a variety of situations. The incumbent must be a South African Sign Language (SASL) interpreter who understands the subject matter of discourse so he or she can accurately interpret what is being spoken into South African Sign Language. The person will be present to interpret during meetings, events and in classrooms where this is required. The incumbent may use technology to provide services from a remote location. The incumbent will be responsible to assist the disability Unit to facilitate academic support for students with disabilities.
Main tasks
- Provision of South African Sign Language Services
- Facilitate academic support for students with disabilities.
- Administration related to the position.
- Report Writing
Nature of appointment: 3-year fixed-term support services
Minimum salary scale (Total Cost to Company): R 515 880 per annum
Note: CUT applies an internal parity model to determine remuneration that complies with the principle of “equal pay for work of equal value”. Accordingly, the preferred candidate may expect an offer that is in line with their qualifications and years of similar experience. Minimum Qualification/ Knowledge and/or Experience
- Higher Certificate (or equivalent) at NQF 5 in South African sign Language.
- 2 years in communication or disability support.
Desired Qualification, Knowledge and/or Experience
- Diploma in language practice / equivalent qualification with South African. Sign Language as a course/specialised certificate in South African Sign Language.
- 5 years relevant experience in communication or disability support.
