[What the role is]
The Singapore Herbarium (SING), located in the Singapore Botanic Gardens, is the 2nd largest in SE Asia. It is holding approximately 800,000 plant specimens actively used for research by local as well as international researchers.
In 2025, we will embark to digitise most of our existing collections and make these publicly available online. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual, who is passionate about plant research and conservation, and curation of natural history collections of national and international importance, to join our team of like-minded colleagues.
[What you will be working on]
You will actively participate in the management and preparation of the collections for the upcoming digitisation project and take part in quality control during the digitisation. This will entail:
- Assisting Senior Herbarium manager with overall project management, progress and finance tracking, and production of regular reports for internal use and donors
- Liaising between staff and external digitisation contractor
- Coordinate schedules of scanning and ensuring that respective plant families are ready for scanning
- Coordinating the specimen images distribution to staff and his/her own for QC checks
- Involving in fundraising projects with Garden City Fund pertaining to herbarium digitisation
- Contributing to public & media engagement, and VIP/donor tours and volunteering opportunities
You will also be rostered for guided tours for public, occasionally help with various Singapore Botanic Gardens’ events and be expected to perform any other duties as required in relation to the digitisation project.
[What we are looking for]
- At least 2 years’ experience in project/events management.
- Possess experience in project management and a strong interest in management of specimen/biodiversity collections.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
- Aptitude at databasing on computers (will be initiated with Botanical Research and Herbarium Management System - BRAHMS).
