The purpose of this position is to provide high quality surgery services to

Accountabilities
Teaching

  • Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching via all modes
of teaching and delivery mediums, including through electronic and
on-line technologies.
  • Design and develop the academic and administrative content of
courses and design the appropriate assessment criteria and
processes.
  • Coordinate and administer the teaching delivery and assessment of
all papers allocated from the University’s Integrated Paper
Programme (IPP).

  • Ensure that all teaching is research-informed and relevant, and that
course materials are regularly updated.
  • Allocate and supervise the teaching and marking of tutors/senior
tutors, graduate assistants, and technical support personnel.
  • Participate in the peer review of teaching to enhance the quality of
course design and delivery.
  • Arrange for regular student evaluations of teaching for all
papers/courses for which paper-coordination responsibilities have
been assigned.
  • Be accessible to students by providing consultation time on course-
related matters.
Supervision
  • Contribute to the University degree completions and success by
supervising the research activities of undergraduate and
postgraduate students, including postgraduate research projects

and theses.
Research and • Contribute to the research activities of the Companion Animal
Hospital

Scholarship
  • Contribute to School seminars and workshops

Service Service to the Community


  • Participate in community service activities that further advance the

profession or field and which are consistent with the University’s
charter and strategic goals.

  • Assist the School to develop and strengthen relationships with
professional and stakeholder communities as appropriate.

  • Participate in the Companion Animal Surgery service.
Clinical services • Ensure that, whenever possible, veterinary students accompany you
and learn by instruction.
  • Ensure that thorough medical records are completed for all patients to
whom you are assigned or managing.
  • Actively participate in rounds, including daily cases rounds and
mortality/morbidity rounds, as appropriate.
  • Attend and contribute to presentations, M&M rounds, seminars and
Journal Clubs as appropriate.
  • The candidate must be willing to be included in the on-call roster for
Companion Animal Surgery.
  • Other duties as reasonably requested by the VTH Director or the Head
of School.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Relevant specialist level qualification or proof of completion of a

  • A veterinary degree which can be immediately registered with the
Veterinary Council of New Zealand is essential
