At Manatū Hauora – Ministry of Health we are the kaitiaki of the health system, providing leadership and driving strategy and performance. We regulate the health sector and are the primary source of advice on health matters.
The Health Research System Innovation team is part of the Evidence, Research and Innovation directorate. Its focus is on providing strategic leadership to strengthen the health research system, which includes research and using evidence (including patient/whānau voice and expertise, including Mātauranga Māori) to drive innovation within the health system.
Ko ake mahi - What you'll do
This role is focused on developing a learning health system (LHS) for New Zealand, where evidence and knowledge are continuously generated and applied to improve health, patient experiences and efficiencies within and across populations.
You will provide oversight, advice and support for key aspects of a programme to develop a LHS in New Zealand, which will involve supporting the Ministry and the health system to take a consistent, continuous approach to learning from evidence and knowledge across the entire system.
You will assist the Principal Advisor, LHS in designing an approach for delivering a nationally consistent LHS, which will include the development of frameworks and tools and which reflects New Zealand's unique needs and context, including upholding our obligations to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Ko pūkenga - What you'll bring
Base knowledge of the concept of a LHS, and the ability to critically consider how this could be translated and implemented in the New Zealand health system
A deep understanding and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations and a commitment to improving equity of health outcomes
Tertiary qualification in a relevant field or equivalent experience
A strong understanding of the New Zealand health system
A solid understanding of health research, ideally including translation and implementation, and how it can be used to benefit the health system
Familiarity with Māori health models, mātauranga Māori knowledge and evidence, or kaupāpā Māori research would be valuable.
