We are seeking a dedicated Security Engineer to protect the Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT) information systems and data from cyber-attacks, potential threats and vulnerabilities. This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining security measures to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of EIT's IT infrastructure. The specialist will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, network administration, and external vendors, to identify risks and strengthen security protocols. The ideal candidate will stay informed on the latest cybersecurity trends and employ advanced tools and best practices to safeguard EIT from emerging cyber threats.
The appointing salary for this role will be between $95,000 and $118,000, dependent on skills and experience.
The Security Engineer based in our Hawkes Bay Report reporting to the Systems Delivery Manager and will be responsible for:

Security Controls: Develop and implement key security measures such as firewalls, intrusion detection, access controls, and encryption protocols to protect digital assets.
Monitoring & Incident Response: Continuously monitor for threats and develop response plans to quickly address and mitigate security breaches.
Vulnerability Management: Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and manage remediation efforts to reduce risks.
Security Training: Create and deliver training programs to raise staff awareness on security policies and best practices.
Compliance & Auditing: Ensure adherence to security standards through regular audits and assessments, identifying areas for improvement.

Technical Proficiency: Strong foundation in cybersecurity principles and expertise in tools like firewalls, intrusion detection, encryption, and network protocols.
Analytical Thinking: Ability to analyze security issues, identify vulnerabilities, and develop effective solutions under pressure.
Communication: Clearly convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders, write policies, and conduct security training.
Problem-Solving: Skilled at troubleshooting and resolving security incidents quickly and effectively.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous in configuring security controls, reviewing logs, and conducting assessments to prevent breaches.
