Postdoctoral Fellow - Tauhokohoko Indigenous Trade


Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
This position is fully funded for two years based at the Te Kotahi Research Institute for the Tauhokohoko Indigenous trade research programme. The Postdoctoral Fellow is a postdoctoral academic appointment co-funded by the MBIE (Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment) Tauhokohoko research programme.
The role will focus on the intersection between Indigenous trade, mātauranga Māori and Māori Data Sovereignty. You will have a strong interest in research in areas aligned to Indigenous data sovereignty and/or Indigenous trade and be expected to participate in applicable duties within the Te Kotahi Research Institute. There is scope to develop independent projects that build knowledge and understanding about Indigenous data sovereignty and Indigenous trade with a particular focus on the digital economy and/or digital cultural heritage. You will work under the supervision of one or more senior mentors of Tauhokohoko.
This full-time position (37.5 hours per week) is based at the University of Waikato, Hamilton. Salary will be in the range of $87,500 to $104,322, per year based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position. Ideally this role will commence in February 2025.

Ko wai koe? - Who are you?
Along with your Ph D in a relevant field, you will have the following:
  • Research understanding and skills in Indigenous trade, mātauranga Māori and/or Māori Data Sovereignty
  • Expertise and knowledge of either Indigenous trade, mātauranga Māori and/or Māori Data Sovereignty
  • A proven ability to communicate and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • An established and high-level record of research and publishing and an active programme of scholarship
  • Ability to apply information and communication technologies to achieve desired outcomes and maintain and update those skills

Te Kotahi Research Institute is aligned with and supports the work of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Māori, positioning Te Kotahi as a cross-University research institute enabling it to bring together academics and researchers from across the University to support, develop and promote research for, by and with iwi/Māori. It will bring together scholars across disciplines to undertake research through its extensive networks both nationally and internationally, acknowledging the diverse nature of Māori research and the needs and aspirations of iwi/Māori communities and other end users.
Te Kotahi has a research programme focused on developing leading edge knowledge and integrated solutions appropriate to both discipline-based and multidisciplinary study.
