Senior Engineer

  • Take the lead on complex issues, review work and provide technical support
  • Flexibility to work from home 2 days per week
  • Permanent position, based near the cafes and beach in our Petone office
This is a full time position of 40 hours per week

The remuneration range for this role is $106,892 to $150,906 p.a. (including Kiwi Saver) depending on skills and experience.

The opportunity
This role is an exciting opportunity for a senior engineer to join a team of passionate 3 Waters engineering professionals within Wellington Water, where you will be responsible for strategic planning and delivering network investigations into regional water supply issues. As part of this position, you will take the lead on complex issues, review work and provide technical support and guidance to the team and organisation. Additionally, you will be a pivotal part of the Facilities team, assisting with the mentoring of developing engineers, providing technical support across the organisation, and managing engineering consultants and contractors to deliver work programmes.
The role sits within our Network Strategy and Planning group, which leads the development and implementation of the regional three waters strategy, planning and policy advice to ensure that our asset management planning meets the needs of client councils.
With a strong emphasis on collaboration this role will also see you:
  • Leading challenging and interesting projects across the three waters
  • Involved in tactical planning, investigations, hydraulic analysis and condition assessment
  • Develop your career with support from management and principal level engineers
  • Provide technical advice and support to other teams within Wellington Water
  • Support the capital program and investment planning processes for our client councils
About you
To be successful in this role you will bring:
  • A relevant tertiary qualification such as Chartered Professional Engineering (preferred), Bachelor Engineering or Diploma in Engineering (preferably Environmental Natural Resources or Civil Engineering)
  • Strong technical knowledge in designing infrastructure such as pump stations, network hydraulics, and/or hydrogeology, with other 3 Waters experience beneficial
  • Ability to solve complex engineering problems
  • Leading analytical skills and ability to manage data to inform and make decisions
  • Strong relationship management and communication skills
