We are a Court of record. Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993 (our Act) recognises the significance of whenua Māori as a taonga tuku iho of special significance to Māori. Our role is to provide a Court service for owners of whenua Māori, their whānau and their hapū.

Te Haeata/The Opportunity
As Pae Whakapā, you will respond to enquiries relating to the registration of applications through all channels including online, email, telephone, mail, and counter.
As a member of the Te Waharoa team, you will ensure applications received are submitted in accordance with the Māori Land Court Rules 2011 and Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993.
You will be responsible for the accurate entry and registration of all application information into our technology platform Pātaka Whenua, ensuring our landowners are consistently receiving a high level of service, regardless of the channel they contact us through.
You will be supported to grow your understanding of our processes, relevant legislation, regulations, and acts. Your ability to build relationships will have a positive impact on the aspirations of Māori landowners for their whenua and their future generations.

Ō pūkenga/Skills and Experience
The role of the Māori Land Court as a people's court is unique and if you believe you can bring value to the work of the court, we'd love to hear from you!
To be successful in the role you'll need:
  • A good general knowledge of, and respect for, tikanga Māori and a commitment to further develop your knowledge of Te Reo Māori.
  • A genuine interest in people and experience in providing great customer service.
  • Great organisational skills and a high level of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Strong demonstrable research skills with excellent written and verbal communications.
  • Operational experience in a medium or large organisation with experience using a digital workflow system to process work.
  • Experience working in a high-paced environment where you are required to respond to changing needs and priorities to manage large workloads.
  • Excellent administrative skills with good attention to detail to produce quality work.
  • Experience in working with other agencies, service providers and key stakeholders.
You will work within a well-established and vibrant team alongside technical experts and you'll have attributes of being flexible, calm, and resilient.

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The salary range is between $58,729 and $80,794 per annum. Your starting rate will be based on your skills and experience.
In addition, there is a Reo Māori allowance (from $1,000 up to $3,200). This is dependent on completion of an approved assessment with Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori Level Finder Examination or verification of language proficiency through the support of kaumātua or mātanga reo (a language expert).
