The patient mix is broad with a full range of trauma, medical and minor presentations. The population we serve is diverse with high levels of deprivation and many live in rural and remote communities.   • Deliver proficient preventive, therapeutic and diagnostic interventions effectively.
  • Perform procedural skills, both diagnostic and therapeutic in a proficient manner.
  • Seek appropriate consultation from health professionals based at our tertiary hospital within the boundary of your expertise.
  • Develop rapport, trust and ethical therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Accurately extract and synthesise relevant information from patients, families and other professionals.

Mō tātou Ratonga | About our Service

Tokoroa hospital sees approximately 14,000 presentations a year through its emergency department and has a 17 bed inpatient ward. We have on-site plain film radiology and laboratory services available during the day and on call 24 hours, 7 days a week. We also have an up to date point of care ultrasound in the emergency department if you wish to use it or are keen to learn. We also manage and help with palliative care within the community to allow patients to be nearer to family. There are two primary care General Practices located on our site, and a third in Tokoroa town. Specialist clinics are provided by visiting specialists from tertiary provider Waikato hospital. There is a four bed primary birthing unit on site run by an employed charge midwife manager and midwives. Our services have close collaborative relationships with primary health providers in Tokoroa and on site including the South Waikato Pacific Island Community NGO as well as Raukawa Charitable Trust.

Mōu | About you

  • Eligibility for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
  • FACEM or Fellow of the Division of Rural Hospital Medicine , or overseas equivalent
  • If you are not a fellow of Emergency Medicine or Rural Medicine but feel you have the experience and skills required from working in a similar environment please apply and we can discuss suitability.
  • Experience in, or passion for, providing quality care to our rural and disadvantaged communities.
