Job Title: Maternity Wellbeing Coordinator

We are seeking an experienced qualified health care professional to join our Women’s and child Health Directorate here at Waikato Hospital.
As a successful Maternity Wellbeing Coordinator, you will play a key role leading and coordinating the Maternity Wellbeing Forums (MWF) within Health New Zealand, Te Whatu Ora – Waikato and play an integral part of supporting our vulnerable wāhine hapu through their pregnancy journey in partnership with both community and hospital services.
Day to day you will:
- Lead and coordinate the Maternity Wellbeing Forums (MWF) within Health New Zealand, Te Whatu Ora – Waikato to enable the best possible outcomes for whānau identified to have complex vulnerabilities during the maternity period (antenatal to six weeks post-partum);
- Strengthen whānau by facilitating a seamless transition between primary and secondary providers of support and care;
- Foster and maintain a collaborative working model to engage support agencies to work with mãma and whānau in a culturally safe manner;
- Work in partnership with health care and community providers as appropriate to achieve a negotiated birth plan before delivery; this enables concerns to be discussed and addressed in a transparent and culturally sensitive way
This is a full time 1.0 FTE permanent position where you will work Monday to Friday.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
- Facilitate and lead regular forums across the Waikato region;
- Build local collaborations with key community stakeholders;
- Work collaboratively within Health New Zealand, Te Whatu Ora - Waikato, other districts and community agencies
- Contributes to Ministry of Health six monthly reports as required by the Violence Intervention Program contract;
- Coordinates the “Power to Protect” Programme and completes the “Power to Protect” six monthly audit report for submission to the Operations Director, Women’s and Child Health;
- Attend multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to decision-making regarding National Child Protection Alerts for vulnerable unborn, Tamariki and rangatahi

Mōu | About you
Essential:
- Holds a current healthcare-related APC in New Zealand with no conditions
- Current NZ driver’s license
- Minimum of 5 years of recent post-registration experience in a New Zealand healthcare setting
- Experience working with women and whānau from a wide range of cultural backgrounds
- The ability to create and maintain positive working relationships both internal and external to Health NZ, Te Whatu Ora – Waikato
Desirable:
- Postgraduate education in a health care profession, or willingness to complete;
- Experience working with vulnerable whānau
Skills and Knowledge:
- Proven experience of working with and supporting whānau with lived experience of family violence including child protection and intimate partner violence
- Familiarity with the Vulnerable Children’s Act, Oranga Tamariki Act 1989, and other relevant acts.
- Familiarity with the Privacy Act and the Health Practitioner Privacy Code.
- Awareness of the social determinants of health and the influence of poverty on access to health care.
- Familiarity with the professional body code of conduct and code of ethics
- Excellent communication skills with strong consumer focus, and ability to mediate effectively.
- Willingness to ensure care and support is provided to women with complex social care needs.
