Kai Manaaki / Cultural Worker

Service: Intellectual Disability Service
Contract: Permanent, Full-time (40 hours per week)
Salary: $69,975 - $84,193 depending on experience
Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
We currently have a vacancy for a full time Kai Manaaki - Cultural Worker. The purpose of the position is to provide cultural support for clients and their whanau from the time of entry and duration of their stay in the Intellectual Disability service. The right person for the role would ideally be someone who has a minimum of level 4 Support Worker Certificate or relevant cultural qualification and has extensive experience working within cultural frameworks.

Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team
The Intellectual Disability Service holds a number of contracts funded directly by Ministry of Disabled People. These contracts are part of a framework of interconnected services for people with an Intellectual Disability.
One of the contracts we hold is for services for clients that are placed under the Intellectual Disability (Compulsory Care & Rehabilitation) Act 2003 (IDCC&R).
These services include:
  • Regional Intellectual Disability Secure Services(RIDSS)
  • National Youth Intellectual Disability Service
  • National Individual Service Units (ISU)
  • Regional Intellectual Disability community Assessment Service (RIDCAS)
Moū - About you
You will have a strong understanding and a strong knowledge of Tikanga and Te Ao Maori with practical ability to convey and teach to all clients and staff through different means such as but not limited to Te Reo and Waiata. With the ability to support access to cultural programmes and activities for clients. Provide support for staff in order to enhance the effectiveness of the cultural plans and activities.
Your skills and experience will ideally be:
  • Knowledge of the Maori Culture Models of Care and Social Models of Care
  • Experience in taking ownership, accountability and responsibility for the role
  • Experience in anticipating, identifying, resolving clinical and administrative/management problems to the desired goals
  • Experience in managing change
  • Can keep detailed written file notes, complete client pathway documentation
  • May have experience with carrying out cultural assessments with clients and their whanau, working with community agencies and working with clients and whanau.
  • Full NZ Drivers Licence
  • Ability to pass a Police check
