Job Description
In the busy emergency department of a hospital, a friendly, calm face can be comforting. Our volunteers are there to listen, give information and provide support to patients and their whānau.
Time Commitment: We ask volunteers to commit to a four-hour shift once a week or fortnightly. In addition, due to the nature of these roles, we are only able to consider volunteers who are able to commit for a minimum of 12 months. Qualifications What experience do I need? None - no prior experience is required. However, there are certain things that are needed to be considered and successful in these roles:
Excellent communication skills
Sensitivity towards those who are sick
A friendly, caring and compassionate nature
A genuine interest in the well-being of others
Physically fit (these roles involve a lot of walking)
You must be at least 18 years of age
Ultimately, we are looking for people who have an aptitude to working with a diversity of cultures that will bring passion to this crucial function within the Hato Hone St John Hospital services. We offer full training and support, uniform, and Hato Hone St John membership (which gives free ambulance service for immediate family, as well as additional benefits). Additional Information COVID-19 Vaccinations Working within the hospital, volunteers are expected to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This means having had 2 primary vaccinations and having or intending to receive your Booster prior to commencement. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination may be requested as part of the recruitment process.
