Emergency Management Advisor - Community Resilience Lead

About the role:

The role of the Emergency Management Advisor - Community Resilience Lead is to primarily advise and coordinate Community Response Teams and to recruit, train and support them in their role within the Selwyn District. This role is 30 hours per week, however additional hours may be required.
As the Emergency Management Advisor - Community Resilience Lead the role is primarily required to,

Provide specialist expertise and support both the Selwyn District Council and the Community Response Framework.
Actively promote and participate in the organisations relationships with key external partner agencies
Contribute to community resilience within the Selwyn area by developing, maintaining and coordinating Community Response teams across Selwyn as well as promoting the Neighbourhood Support Model.
Promote resilience by delivering public education presentations to both the general community and community groups.
Maintain good relationships with community organisations that may have a role in an emergency response and with Community Response Teams; Attend community, committee and volunteer meetings as required and provide appropriate advice and guidance.

About you:

Our ideal candidate will be an enabler, flexible and a facilitator of excellent working relationships. You will have had previous experience in community development and working with community volunteers in as either a paid employee or a volunteer with some operational experience.

You will need to be flexible enough to work evenings and weekends to meet with volunteers at a time which suits them.

You will also have:

Excellent relationship management skills are essential to this role as you will be working alongside all other emergency service and community agencies.
Be able to self-manage and remain motivated
The flexibility to be deployed elsewhere in Canterbury or other parts of New Zealand should the need arise
Have a current working knowledge of CIMS4 (Coordinated Incident Management System)
Have the personal motivation to "get stuck in" and get the job done
