Marlborough Emergency Management requires a new Captain, to join and lead the small but dedicated team of five. You will be responsible for providing high level advice to the team on strategic crisis management related issues, which either impact, or have the potential to impact the community. In addition, having a role in any strategic emergency response to regional emergencies and threats.
Te Tauihu iwi are a key partner in delivering community resilience across the region, you will also work across a wide range of other stakeholders including, but not limited to, urban and rural communities, education facilities, Chamber of Commerce, lifeline utilities and emergency services to increase their resilience to foreseeable hazards.
You will get to:
- Work across the organisation ensuring readiness for any disruptive events
- Work within Business Continuity and Emergency Management frameworks
- Build, foster and manage effective working relationships
- Set welfare priorities and coordinate the actions of welfare partners to ensure the district is adequately prepared to support communities in an emergency
- The role includes supporting, including some training of 30+ community volunteers
- Maintaining relationship with stakeholders and welfare agencies are essential
This is a full-time position based at our Emergency Management building, Taylor Pass, Blenheim.

To be successful in this role you will need to first establish sound working relationships resulting in levels of influence that can bring about change. Given the size of the team you will also be anticipated to work collaboratively to deliver on other staff work programs as well as your own.
You will be someone who has:
- A tertiary level qualification in Emergency Management or related discipline (desirable)
- Four to five years experience in Emergency/Response Management or a related environment
- Experience in leading a concept through to delivery
- Proven experience of working in a collective and collaborative leadership work environment
- An understanding of the nuances of the political operating environment .
- an ability to work under pressure and have personal plans to ensure your wellbeing
- a desire to continually improve through monthly reviews
You will also have excellent relationship management skills are essential to this role as you will be working alongside all other emergency service and welfare agencies. Have flexibility to be deployed elsewhere in New Zealand should the need arise and have a working knowledge of CIMS4 (Coordinated Incident Management System)
