About the role
As Council's Community and Biodiversity Ranger a significant focus of your work will be developing new and existing relationships with iwi, members of the community, internal customers/clients and businesses. You'll be responsible for partnering with key stakeholders and connecting with people - looking after our relationships at both pace and place.
You will join a highly motivated team that aspires to lead and advocate for conservation in natural spaces and urban reserves. This will be achieved by enabling and developing people and communities to understand, value, and take ownership of their green-space. It will require balancing access with Councils indigenous biodiversity strategy and policies. These are designed to achieve great outcomes for conservation whilst mitigating the worst effects of climate change.
Amongst other things the position will be focused on:
  • Overseeing commercial recreation and works approvals for existing community organisations Providing context, critical analysis and recommendations for decision makers
  • Supporting whānau, hapū and iwi in their role as kaitiaki of te taiao;
  • Promoting the value of local, regional, and national conservation initiatives
  • Identifying and executing opportunities to achieve conservation outcomes whilst working with iwi, businesses and the wider community


About You
Along with a positive, enthusiastic personality, we need an individual who is a proven team player, well-organised and great at relationships, communication and problem solving. You will be versatile and resilient, able to tackle a variety of work. If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you:
  • Excellent communication skills, presenting information clearly and concisely both written and verbally;
  • Solid IT skills and comfortable using database systems;
  • Proven problem-solving, critical-thinking and analysis skills, ability to provide mutually-beneficial outcomes;
  • Full NZ Drivers License.
