Location: Wageningen, Netherlands Hybrid About the role As Plant Protein Technologist, you will contribute to internal innovation & capability on alternative protein application across different plant-based foods in the Flora Food Group portfolio: creams, cheese, spreads and plant butter. The focus will be on assessing various biomass proteins and processing technologies to incorporate them in product applications. You will be responsible for building expertise on biomass proteins to improve taste, texture and performance of our products. Application of the knowledge know-how in new product development will be done in close collaboration with the other disciplines as science, engineering and product development teams. You will lead external contacts with suppliers and start-ups. You will characterize new biomass proteins and test processing technologies to incorporate proteins into model systems and final products on lab, pilot scale and factories either internally across different R&D functions or externally in partnership with suppliers, start-ups, research institutes or academia. In this role, you will train to become a knowledge holder on biomass protein incorporation in plant-based emulsions and gels while also being a strong communicator, to connect the innovation technologies to application.
So, what does it take to be successful in this role?
You have a Master's degree in Food Fermentation & Biotechnology, Food Science, Food Technology, Food Engineering or alike. You are curious to understand the technology and push the boundaries of expertise. You have some experience in application of biomass proteins in foods, or biomass protein ingredient production, or come from biomass protein production industry. Experience with ingredient processing, modifications and/or application in the product formulation is a plus.
You have good understanding of protein functionalities: solubility, emulsification, gelation, foaming. You are familiar with different biomass proteins and their typical characteristics. You have good knowledge of protein analysis with hands on experience. You are good at data analysis, and you have knowledge in statistical analysis. You are knowledgeable in plant-based emulsion system (eg: cheese, creams, spreads). You are good at critical thinking with industrial research mindset. You are a problem solver, completer and strong communicator. You show flexibility and willingness to adapt within a fast-changing environment. You show responsibility, willing to own and drive things through to enable delivery. You are a self-starter but can also work in a global framework. You are fluent in English, in both spoken and written.
