Dublin Examining Board - Ireland’s leading supplier of mock examinations is seeking Specialist Editors in the following specialties Irish, Music, German, English, Maths, and Science to join its editorial team in Dublin, Ireland. The company produces the examination documents used by secondary school students in their mock Junior and Leaving Certificate examinations. Mock examinations normally take place in January and February in preparation for the actual examinations which take place annually in June, and as such are a crucial component of students’ preparations. Our highly detailed and professionally laid out documents give the students the most authentic examination experience possible. The Specialist Editor will work in all areas of the editorial process, bringing work from commissioning through significant refinement in content, design, and layout to final printing. The successful candidate will liaise directly with educators; editing and rewriting text and enhancing layout. Line by line editing is a crucial element of this role as is a passionate interest in the precise presentation of finished documents. This position differs from that of a traditional editor in publishing in that the role comprises many elements from the beginning to the end of the process.
Fervent attention to detail, formidable proficiency in MS Word and at least 3 years’ experience in copyediting / proofreading is essential, as is flexibility and a willingness to adapt and learn on the job.
An editorial background is essential.
Experience of using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop software would be an advantage but are not essential.
Candidates with honours degrees in the any discipline will be considered while those with degrees in languages and the specified subjects will be particularly welcome.
This is a permanent position and subject to the needs of the business and the skills and experience of the successful candidate, it may be full or part-time role.
