The Opportunity
We are now seeking a Senior Engineer to join our System Integrity team.
The role of Senior Engineer will support the System Integrity function in ensuring that it fulfils its objectives in relation to the various technical requirements. The role holder will work with the team in areas including some of the following areas - input to Eir Grid’s connection offer process; production of Protection, Control and Metering specifications for transmission projects; new connections; and production of Energisation and Operating Instructions for new equipment and connections; incident investigation and reporting; revenue Metering operations; and in the planning of transmission and generation outages.
The Team
The Operations Office is central to the delivery of our primary role – the operation, development and enhancement of the power system and the wholesale electricity market. The Office is also responsible for the sustainable implementation of transmission system and market development to meet the future needs of all users of electricity.
The System Integrity function manages a wide range of technical functions. The function is responsible for Power System Protection, Transmission and Generator outage planning, Revenue Metering for transmission connected generation and the controlled introduction of new and recently maintained plant to the power system. The work of the function is critical to enabling Eir Grid to operate a safe, secure power system, facilitate the maintenance of transmission and generation assets, to facilitate system development and the connection/commissioning of new customer connections. The function closely supports the real time and near time operational activities in the National Control Centre.
About you
Successful candidates will have the following:
Engineering degree or equivalent, typically with a minimum of 4 years post qualification experience in the electricity industry.
Strong knowledge of electrical power systems, HV / MV apparatus and awareness of energy targets and ambitions for decarbonisation for the energy sector.
Experience of power system modelling & studies including load flow and/or short circuit etc.
Be able to guide, persuade and influence others through developed skills of communication and diplomacy.
Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Ability to conceive and introduce innovative ideas, solutions or new ways of doing things to solve business problems, collaborating with business experts along the way.
Excellent organisational skills and strong track record of delivery
Experience in a multidisciplinary team and excellent qualitative and quantitative analytical abilities, coupled with the ability to make reasoned judgements based on available information in a changing and dynamic environment.
Ability to conceive and introduce innovative ideas.
Good oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
Passionate, engaging with a drive and enthusiasm to deliver on the company vision and strategy.
