Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to lead out Tirlán's Food Safety Programs, working across the Tirlán manufacturing site network and central functions. The core internal and external stakeholders linked to this role are in the areas of Product Regulatory and Food Safety, Quality Operations, Quality Systems, Supplier & TPM Management, Laboratory Excellence & Operations, New Product Development, Supply Chain & Operations and Commercial.
You'll be responsible for ensuring regulatory change and customer specific requirements are considered in the Food Safety Program.
Primarily based in the Abbey Quarter, Kilkenny, this is a hybrid role. You will also be required to travel to and work from our manufacturing sites frequently.
Responsibilities
Developing and managing the company’s risk mitigation strategy across all products (Food & Feed), with oversight for contaminants throughout the Tirlan supply chain and those products produced by 3rd parties for Tirlán;
Develop and maintain programs for:
conducting risk assessments;
verification, validation and monitoring for effectiveness of food safety plans;
food safety procedures and regulations for new line and equipment commissioning.
Drive, oversee and manage a robust Food, Feed Safety & Contaminants management program with strong collaboration from Quality Operations and Quality Systems, in areas such as HACCP, risk management and pre-requisite program alignment.
Monitor and report on emerging issues related to food safety and quality, and develop strategies to mitigate risk;
Delivers expertise and technical advice on complex and critical food safety concerns;
Create relationships with state bodies, industry groups and overarching bodies which will be leveraged to ensure risk management and best in class methods are deployed;
Attend forums with external bodies and work closely to understand regional Food Safety concerns, emerging risks, food fraud issues, and with those schemes providing insights to risk, FERA, EFSA, Fortress Irl, Horizon, GMP+, FEFAC, DII, EDA, etc.;
Conduct periodic food & feed safety audits against the appropriate standards (Regulatory, Internal, Customer);
Support site Quality Operations in Food Safety Risk assessment in the event of incident escalation;
Sign off on the Food Safety elements of our Milk Purchasing and Grain Purchasing Policies;
Demonstrate mechanisms of benchmarking Tirlán’s Food Safety Risk Program against industry leaders.
Requirements
Degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science or equivalent discipline (minimum 2.1);
Minimum 10 years’ experience in the food industry with experience in a senior food safety and risk management role and ensuring compliance in agricultural, food & dairy industries;
Previous experience with microbial, chemical contaminants risk assessments and control of same;
Proven track record in industry-specific risks and mitigation programmes;
Strong technical knowledge and mastery in relation to food safety and food safety legislation;
Dynamic organisational, communication and collaboration skills;
Self-directed leader capable of creating and delivering our Food Safety culture and strategic plan, while motivating team members towards those goals;
Highly driven to achieve results;
