Role: To transport persons supported by SOS Kilkenny as required in a safe and responsible and safe manner maintaining the highest standard of driving in accordance with the rules of the road.
Duties & Responsibilities:
To transport people attending services to and from their residences while complying with the rules of the road at all times.
In conjunction with the Transport Officer develop routes and timetables accurately, ensuring punctuality and reliability for all trips.
Ensuring that all passengers are all safely seated i.e. by ensuring the use of seat belts and wheelchair clamps as required.
Maintain the vehicle in a safe and roadworthy manner always making sure it is in a clean and hygienic condition.
To report any accidents, incidents or near misses immediately.
To report any vehicle defects immediately to the Transport Officer.
Assisting persons supported on and off vehicles using appropriate lifting techniques as required.
To ensure that all policies and protocols of SOS Kilkenny CLG adhered to at all times.
To communicate effectively with the persons supported and to treat them with dignity and respect.
Positively engage with passengers at all times with regard to any query or concern that they may have.
To communicate with parents as required
To participate in training programmes as appropriate.
To act calmly and effectively in emergency situations, ensuring the safety of passengers and providing necessary assistance.
To carry out weekly and pre-journey vehicle checks and document as necessary.
Follow all provisions of the SOS Kilkenny clg Code of Conduct for Drivers Policy and SOS Kilkenny Driving for Work Policy.
Education, Experience & Requirements:
Category Irish B Full Clean Driving licence essential.
Category D and CPC training desirable but not essential
A minimum of 2 years relevant driving experience
Disability awareness and experience of transporting passengers with limited mobility or who use wheelchairs is desirable.
Relevant Occupational experience
Excellent interpersonal skills are essential.
Safe Carrying & Transport training desirable but not essential
