Head of Legal and Compliance
As the Legal & Compliance Head at a fast-growing financial technology (fintech) startup, you will be responsible for ensuring that the company operates within the legal frameworks and adheres to financial regulations in Indonesia. This role involves managing all legal risks, overseeing regulatory compliance, drafting agreements, handling disputes, and guiding the company in maintaining ethical and lawful practices. You will collaborate with various departments and regulatory authorities to ensure the company is compliant with OJK, Bank Indonesia, and other relevant bodies.

- Legal Advisory & Compliance Strategy: Provide expert legal counsel to the executive team on fintech-specific laws, regulations, and strategies. Develop and implement a compliance framework tailored to fintech operations in Indonesia.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with financial regulatory bodies such as OJK, Bank Indonesia, and other relevant institutions. Manage relationships with regulators, submitting timely reports and handling audits.
- Policy Development: Create and update internal compliance policies, including data protection (aligning with Indonesian laws like UU ITE), anti-money laundering (AML), anti-fraud measures, and other fintech-related regulations.
- Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including partnership agreements, vendor contracts, and customer terms of service, to safeguard the company’s legal interests.
- Risk Management & Mitigation: Identify potential legal risks related to fintech operations, including product development, and recommend strategies to mitigate these risks.
- Dispute Resolution: Oversee legal disputes, represent the company in litigation or regulatory hearings, and manage relationships with external legal counsel when needed.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor the legal and compliance teams, ensuring alignment with the company's rapid growth and startup culture.
- Stay Updated on Legal Developments: Monitor new regulations, industry standards, and legal changes, particularly those related to fintech, digital finance, and technology law in Indonesia.
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Law (Sarjana Hukum). A Master’s degree in Law or Business Law is a plus.
- 5-8 years of legal experience, with at least 3 years in fintech, banking, or financial services industries. Startup experience is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Indonesian fintech regulations, including compliance with OJK, Bank Indonesia, and relevant local financial laws.
- Proven experience in leading legal teams or managing legal operations in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of Indonesian laws and regulations related to digital financial services, electronic transactions, data protection (UU ITE), and fintech compliance frameworks.
- Familiarity with emerging technology law, payment systems, digital lending, and other relevant fintech regulations.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to negotiate complex agreements and present legal matters clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
- Ability to manage legal risks in a fast-moving startup environment.
- Proactive problem-solving and strong organizational skills to manage multiple legal and compliance projects simultaneously.
- Highly ethical, with strong judgment and decision-making abilities.
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to work in a dynamic startup culture.
- Agile, with the ability to adapt to changes in the regulatory landscape and the company’s growth.
