Job Description: Staff Nurse. (Ward) A Staff Nurse working in a ward typically has a diverse set of responsibilities focused on patient care and ensuring the smooth functioning of the ward. Here's a general job description for this role: Key Responsibilities: 1. Patient Care.
Administer medications, monitor vital signs, and provide other clinical treatments according to physician's orders.
Ensure patient comfort, hygiene, and dignity are maintained throughout their stay.
Respond promptly to patient call bells and manage immediate patient needs.
Educate patients and their families on care plans, medications, and procedures.
2. Clinical Duties.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including electronic medical records.
Prepare and assist in diagnostic tests, treatments, and surgical interventions.
Provide wound care, catheter care, and other nursing interventions.
Monitor changes in patients' conditions and report significant findings to the doctor or senior staff.
Participate in patient handovers at shift changes to ensure continuity of care.
3. Team Collaboration.
Work as part of a multidisciplinary team (physicians, therapists, social workers, etc.) to ensure holistic care.
Supervise junior nurses, healthcare assistants, and nursing students, providing mentorship and guidance.
Attend and contribute to ward rounds, team meetings, and patient case conferences.
4. Ward Management.
Ensure that all healthcare equipment is in working order and properly maintained.
Manage patient admissions, discharges, and transfers efficiently.
Comply with infection prevention and control measures, ensuring a clean and safe environment.
Maintain appropriate stock levels of medications, medical supplies, and other resources.
Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and compliance with hospital policies and protocols.
5. Health & Safety.
Adhere to the hospital’s health and safety policies, ensuring a safe working environment for patients and staff.
Recognize and act upon any risks or hazards, reporting incidents in line with hospital procedures.
Respond to medical emergencies, including resuscitation and other critical care procedures as necessary.
6. Professional Development.
Keep up to date with nursing best practices, healthcare regulations, and clinical guidelines.
Attend mandatory training sessions and seek opportunities for continuing professional development.
Comply with the nursing code of conduct and ethics.
Skills and Qualifications:
Registered number is compulsory.
GNM/ANM degree required.
Proven 1-3 years experience in a hospital ward setting.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work under pressure and make quick decisions.
